Here is part 2 of my trip to Paris, I have so many pictures to share with you all I decided to post all of the places I visited in different parts. If you read my previous post you would have seen pictures of when I visited the Louvre, and it was one of the most amazing places I've visited in my whole life. It is truly a once in a life time experience. If you're a bit of an art and history geek like myself you'll be in heaven. I also visited the Musee d'Orsay and the Musee de l'Orangerie which were both so beautiful, I was so overwhelmed by the architecture of the building themselves as well. I still can't comprehend the fact that I saw Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet's work in real life, as well as many other famous painters. One of my highlights was definitely seeing the painting which was used as Coldplay's Viva la Viva's album artwork.
I've seen images of it in art class and online but nothing compares to seeing it in real life. Each and every brush stroke was noticeable and close up you could see the big scores of paint but from a distance all of the lines and marks came together to create something so beautiful and breathtaking. I also had the honour of being able to see the Mona Lisa close up, I was able to get to the front of the crowd and sneak a peek. I have to admit it was a lot smaller in real life than I imagined it to be! While I was viewing the painting I couldn't stop laughing because there was groups of people taking 'selfies' with her. They would all of a sudden turn around and use their front camera which I have to say was quite amusing, but I don't think the security guard thought it was.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the Eiffel Tower! It was so surreal to be standing underneath such a magnificent piece of engineering. When I heard we had tickets to go to the summit I was kind of scared. I wouldn't say I'm scared of heights but the thought of going up that high in a clear glass lift did unnerve me. So after many deep breathes I decided to go up, even if that meant gripping onto the metal bar inside the lift the whole time. When we reached the top my first thoughts were, why is it so cold! Next time I'm going to wrap up more. I originally thought the windows of the level were tinted because it was so foggy! You'll see what I mean in the photos below. It was a shame we couldn't see much at the summit but it made me appreciate the scale of the tower even more and the beauty of this city, even from above.
(I told you it was foggy!)
