Keeping a journal/diary

I've been wanting to make a blog post about this for as long as I can remember, but my recent trip to Paris gave me the encouragement to do so. Today I thought I'd share with you a little bit more about myself and not just about the places I have visited. In a generation where we are becoming increasingly reliant on technology and smart phones to plan our days and keep notes I feel like we are slowly drifting away from actually sitting down and writing down our thoughts and experiences. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I could live without my phone or the internet but there is something so great about sitting down at the end of a busy day and just being able to write down all of your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a diary or journal.

I bought a Moleskine in about June time last year and I was determined to fill it but being a perfectionist I was too scared to 'ruin' it and not fill it properly. Am I the only one who does this? Probably. After I got over my fear of not writing the right thing in it, I began to really enjoy keeping a journal. With applying for University and studying for my A Levels while trying to balance every day life it can get a bit stressful and hectic, but I felt by writing how I was feeling down I was able to move on from that as soon as I wrote it. Even if I only wrote a few words or sentences it made me feel a whole lot better. I don't think I could write in it every day, but it's there when I need it. I also found keeping a journal of all of the places I've been and writing down my thoughts and feelings of the place allowed me to relive the moment and keep the memory of the place alive.

But you don't just have to write in your journal! When I have time I'll often just make little doodles and use my watercolours. You can fill it with whatever you want to and in a way that's what makes it so unique because there's little parts of you in it. Another fun way to fill your journal is to use a disposable camera to capture the moments as they happen, and once you get them developed you could add them to your journal. I know sometimes for me, pictures speak louder than words and what a better way to do this than to buy a disposable camera and have some fun with it, you never know how the pictures are going to turn out!

If you want to look for some inspiration on how you can fill your journal you can click here where I have put together a collection on weheartit.

(p.s. I also bought a new mug in Paris and it's the cutest mug I've ever seen. I may have a habit of collecting pretty mugs!)

  1. I have the same imperfection fear. I've been wanting to keep a journal for quite some time and I've bought several cute notebooks but I never end up actually writing in them. it's silly, but I'm glad to hear it's not just me.
anyway, your diary looks really beautiful! love the idea of adding pictures :)

  2. I'm the same as you! I'll buy a beautiful journal, but won't write a single thing in it incase my handwriting has an off day or any misspellings! I literally have about 5 blank journals!

  5. I did the same thing with my Moleskin journals. I bought two (and they weren't cheap) ang they're both blank right now. My sister has a lot of water color paints, so I think I'm going to try water color designs in my book. If you write a little poem on top of the art, it looks really pretty too!

I tagged you for a Liebstar award! If you're up for it, the questions are on my blog :)

  6. Oh I just love this! Just the way it looks makes me really happy, I don't know haha. Your handwriting looks so amazing! Really vintage hehe. :) I'm having a Moleskine too but I only draw in it, yay. The mug is so cute by the way! I think we have the same habit then haha, I collect mugs too. Uh-oh.

I'm following you right now by the way. I'd like it so much if you follow me back? :) Not because I'm trying to get more followers, but I love it to follow each other when I like a blog. And I do really like yours.
